  1. Dear Friends,

It breaks my heart to tell you that Mr. Bruno, my beautiful, strong, loving, protective and somewhat wussy dog, had to be put down this afternoon (6.4.2011). He developed a little gut infection on Thursday which turned out to be a severe cardio-vascular, respiratory and possibly cancerous event.

Bruno had a good life, however it did not start that way. He was in a litter of puppies that was buried alive and rescued before all of the puppies had died. He joined Eric, another dog (Charlie), three cats, a cockatoo and me at our house. He loved going for walks on the beautiful green parkway across the street and playing with Charlie in our yard.

When Eric and I divorced, Bruno and Charlie came to live with me in an apartment. He turned out to be a very happy apartment dog! Then when our parents died, Fran and I moved into the our old family home. Charlie and Bruno loved having a big yard and 2 new playmates, Fran’s dogs Maggie and Riley, and a non-playmate Fan 2, Mom’s old cat.

As life events go, Fan 2, Maggie, Riley, and Charlie died. Then Fran brought home Archie and Bruno found his purpose in life as the daddy, protector, and trainer of Archie. His love for the young puppy was a surprise to us. Since then, Bruno has trained, protected and played with all our dachshund puppies. Last night for the first time since the 3 dachshunds moved in, he did not run out the door and stop to play with them and he did not play this morning.

It is a difficult and painful decision to put down a pet, but I could not bare the idea of Bruno ending his happy and loving life in pain and misery with only a slight and uncertain possibility of recovery.

Tonight as you enjoy a drink (water, soft drink, wine, beer, cosmo, etc.), drink a toast to Mr. Bruno, that most loving, beautiful, protective, loyal, and wussy dog in all of his glory and wish him a fond farewell.

7.27.2011 My dear Bruno, I miss you.
